very sad, i liked him a lot
I’m in complete shock. An all timer who didn’t get enough mainstream recognition. This is horrible.
just heard it on the radio and am in complete shock. ouch.
i had heard he wasn't doing well a while ago (lung cancer as a long time smoker?) but i thought he was doing well again. ouch.
No, this can't fucking be true. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo FUCK!!!!!!!!
Fuck! Dude was from another planet and could leave anybody in stitches. RIP Norm

The one that really matters: Norm destroys Courtney Thorne-Smith
What a tragic loss! I love Norm! Rest In Peace!
Oh fuck no, come on! Srsly!?
Oh,this is just a joke right?
Edit awh shit, coming in on the wire, fuck it all,it's true.
I liked his Bob Dole impersonation.
I wanted dole as president just for that…
Who’d have thought Dole would outlive him.
I didn’t realize he was that old! 😱 But gosh, what a hilarious human being. RIP. 🥺
His 12 minute joke was my all time favorite.
The one about 3 men and a genie?
This is so sad. I thought he was truly funny. In a way I'm glad to read that it wasn't due to drugs or suicide, if one can ever be "glad" about a person's death.
what the fuck
This is a bummer.
I was lucky enough to see his standup, he was great live.
This is the first celebrity death in my 33 years that has actually gutted me. RIP.
Last time I felt this bad was John Candy...
What a shame. No body will be able to tell a story about a moth the same as Norm. A legend passed today.
Oh my god. That's awful
Fucking god damnit
God fucking damnit
Privately living with cancer for the last ten years. Damn.
“The only thing an old man can tell a young man is that it goes fast, real fast, and if you’re not careful it’s too late. Of course, the young man will never understand this truth.”
― Norm Macdonald, Based on a True Story
That book is amazing. So many times it will have you in its grip as he tells you this amazing story, and then he throws you on to the train track and you realize the story was all made up.
Or was it?
didn’t know he had cancer
And for 9 years.
Is this real??? Not seeing reported anywhere else.
EDIT: Wow. Speechless. So sad. RIP Norm. Thanks for sharing your gift with us.
Right?? I'll wait till TMZ reports it.
Right? I couldn’t find anywhere else, and was surprised Reddit would have breaking news before TMZ.
I just told my wife the same thing. With celebrity deaths it isn't true until TMZ reports it.
Well shit. www.tmz.com/2021/09/14/norm-macdonald-dead-dies-cancer/
It's trending on Twitter. Unfortunately I think it is
Variety is reporting it on twitter.
I am shocked. He was one of the best comedians, ever. Like on the Mt Rushmore. RIP
Truly a Fucking Legend. To be fighting cancer and still continue to bring joy until the end takes alot of strength.
I'm in denial. I can't accept this. Just tooooo much.
One of, if not the best. I saw this on the Norm Macdonald subreddit and thought it was a joke. Sad day.
I'm not sure I can live in a world where Artie Lang outlives Norm Macdonald.
Im sure Artie tried really hard to go first.
Man this really sucks. Rest easy to a legend
Or so the Germans would have us believe.
And who did they pick as their opponent? The world.
Hands down one of the best to ever do it. Top 5. Sad day
A comedic titan, similar in both influence and reputation as Patrice O'Neal or George Carlin, and he will be missed just as deeply.
Patrice and Norm, man. Two legends that can continue past their years thanks to the magic of the internet.
Wait. What? This is so out of left field. RIP.
This one hits hard.
Norm MacDonald was one of the funniest people I've ever seen. His appearances on talk shows are legendary, his shows were great, and his roast of Bob Saget might be the funniest thing I've ever seen.
edit: the Bob Saget roast: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-9wo_apQ1s
Came out of no where goddamn
Norm will be missed!
RIP :( Norm
Wow this is shocking news. There’s will truly never be anybody else like Norm
It would've been poetic if he'd died on 9/11. It was a national tragedy after all. RIP Norm
He walked through blood and bones looking for his brother, after all.
Note to self: Fuck you cancer.
Dirty Work was a comedy masterpiece. Who ever thought Artie Lange would outlive Norm? This one hurts.
Oh fuck. This is horrible. Such a talented man:(
Dammit! Stupid secret cancer. What a fucking shame, he was a brilliant man.
9/11? What a terrible name for an airline company. Rip Legend
I'm sad to hear it. Though I guess not entirely shocked. He hasn't looked like himself the last few times I've seen him.
I refuse to believe this, this is heartbreaking
One of the greats. Canadian legend and one of the greatest comedians of our time.
Well that sucks.
(I figure this is how he might respond to such news)
Dang, I did not see this coming.
... that's also what Nicole said to OJ the night he murdered her.
A Norm-style joke to honor the passing of one of comedy's great professionals.
RIP to the absolute legend
Just like the Trevor Moore death… this one got to me. Fuck man
This is a tough one. Damn, man. RIP Norm.
2021 is officially worse than 2020
This was the only one that made me say "holy shit" in years. Obligatory Letterman set, complete with tears:
This is a serious downer. RIP to one of comedies GOATs
He was responsible for my favorite SNL segment, Celebrity Jeopardy. A lot of people think of it as Will Farrells segment, but the original sketch was written by Norm to showcase his Burt Reynolds impression. R.I.P. Turd Ferguson.
I have watched the SNL Celebrity Jeopardy sketches with Norm countless times, and I cry laugh every single time.
Dirty Work is the only movie I have ever seen where I was the only person in the theater.
It's also the only movie I've ever seen in the theater where I howled with laughter for 5 minutes straight (the fish scene hit me just right).
Struggling with cancer for a decade. That's wild. And so, so sad.
I gasped the same gasp I did with Robin and Kobe and Michael. Too soon
Aww motherfucker no. I'm fucking 41 and this shit isn't cool man.
First Trevor now Norm. I'M DONE
I didn’t even know he was sick.
Only the real ones will get this. RIP Norm.
sounds like he wanted it that way. rip norm!
No one could beat his timing and delivery, a fucking goat.
Damn. What a shock. RIP
Gregory Illinivich must be heartbroken….
Start roasting him now. He would not have wanted any 'too soon?' restraints.
Truly one of the funniest humans to ever live. Rip
Damn. One of the greatest, driest, funniest men to ever do it. He's going to be so, so missed.
OJ Simpson must have been involved.
Man, this is tough.
One of the best to ever do it. His delivery was so hilarious to me every time. This sucks.
The light bulb was on.
This ruined my day. We need to watch Dirty Work in his honor.
First Sean Lock and now this.
Just fuck cancer.
Well this is certainly a shock. Suffering so long in privacy, but suffering no more.
Thanks for everything, Norm.
Wow. I am genuinely bummed by this. I loved norm. Always wanted to see him live and never got the chance.
RIP to a true genius comedian.
This is so devastating. My buddies all got tickets to see him this November. He is a legend that will not be forgotten.
Oh no. I was listening to him on YouTube this morning. A legend.
Shocked doesn't cover it. I was just about to buy tickets for his Boston show the beginning of October.
What in the actual fuck
World just lost one of the funniest people of all time. This fucking hurts.
I remember him being the celebrity who won half a million on who wants to be a millionaire before I knew him as a comedian.
Seemed like a bright man with a quick wit.
This is awful. The man was singular. His delivery alone could make any line, however dry, howlingly funny.
And Peter asked norm when he got to the pearly gates, “why are you here?”.
“Well because the light was on”
Looks like he finally joined that moth and went towards the light!
Well today’s gone from shit, to fucking shit real quick. RIP
Man he was my top comedians. I went to his show years ago and was front row. I dragged my then girlfriend and told her how much I loved this guy. While he's on stage he looks directly at me and goes WOAH! My heart skipped a beat thinking holy shit he's gonna rip on me or talk to Me!! He just says "Jesus Christ you look like a young Mario Lopez. Good for you!". And that was that. It made my world hahaha and each time he's brought up it takes me back to that moment. RIP Norm you were the man.
A one of a kind guy, this is such sad news. So many people will miss him dearly
Norm's voice is something I don't think I'll ever forget. Even in the kid's show Fairly Odd Parents, he played a fantastic character that left a lasting impression.
It’s a funny hat, see. RIP Norm. Was always my favorite on celebrity jeopardy.
Ah man . . . Rest in peace Norm. You won't be forgotten.
First we lost Sean Lock's dry sense of humor and now Norm's desiccating one.
I don't even know what it was, but one of his standups (he was wearing a black leather jacket or something) was one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life.
Goddamnit. A legend is lost.
Wow. I would often get lost on YouTube watching videos of him just making people feel awkward. He was one of the most unique comedians around.
So sad to hear this.
God damnit I love norm macdonald.
Holy shit, I'm fucking devastated. I can't even muster a proper response right now.
This joke hurts now
Damn, lost a true comedians comedian. rip Norm :(
Huge huge huge respect for the man. He got fired from SNL for refusing to cut OJ Simpson any slack. Very few people are willing to take that kind of risk, so in honour I'll share my favourite Norm Macdonald OJ Simpson Joke:
"After grisly photos of the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson were shown in court, O.J. turned his head away and wept. It was at that moment that he realized he would never be able to kill her again."
Norm was the funniest person I have ever seen. I hate knowing that I will never get to experience more of his material.
I was watching the beginning of Billy Madison today and there he was. Then I open reddit, and he’s dead. Now I’m sad. Poor Norm. RIP.
