Wait is that really true? Pretty big if it is.

Edit: Just checked Solana's official tweet. It's true. Insane how they can just shutdown the whole blockchain just like that. I guess FTX will be pretty affected by it.

People are pretty new to Solana but this would actually mark the 3rd halt just this year, I believe one lasted over 12 hours. Not sure if this is true yet though, will poke around.

Edit: Solana has confirmed they are debugging on twitter.

Yeah the earlier halts were problematic too, but most of the market missed it as SOL was around $20 back then and no one really cared to this extent.

A top 10 blockchain, $50bn mcap network going down is pretty embarrassing

But thats an inherent issue of these POS networks running on a handful of servers

I'll await a post mortem but it seems like it always revolves around their leader/replication consensus mechanism. It seems the whole network is fragile to issues with the node elected as the leader.

I dont know if its a contributor or not but leaders hand-off every 4 slots which is only 1.6 seconds on average, I can imagine geographically diverse leaders struggling to stay on-chain, especially in times of high tx volume.

POS networks running on a handful of servers

you mean "dPOS" ;-)
Also; who could have foreseen that bad behaviour without punishment would actually happen?!?!?

This is why Ethereum 2.0 has two mechanisms in place to prevent shitty validators:
- slashing for malicious behaviour (double voting, etc).
- leaking for inactivity

No activity for a while now.

You cant equate a system like Solana, to fully decentralized protocols. Nothing wrong with Solana per-se, but thinking its magically better than other systems that have years of planning and development is naive.

The solana bulls arent really big on decentralisation, I doubt this results in a big dump.

They will pass this off as early pains, but to a true crypto user the inability to access your funds for an hour because the "blockchain" is down is a bloody joke

This is the third or 4th such halt on Solana in the past few months. The earlier ones were also played off as nothing

Unsharded Networks will be much more likely to break when they scale. Only Chance to scale more is centralisation. Here we are in the middle of the blockchain trilemma. If they shard they will loose atomic composability. Only project that will be able to do both (sharding withouth breaking atomic composability) is radix.

In the very, extremely early days bitcoin was constantly crashing and going offline. And then getting fixed. That's why it's so strong and secure today. It's been battle tested out in the nasty, dirty real world for a decade, as opposed to carefully engineered in a safe, clean lab.

This sub is genuinely fucking garbage most of the time. If it doesn't agree with their fat bag of shitcoins they downvote. No matter how much actual logic, fact, information, and reasoning you use they just see "Hey that's negative about my X investment" and downvote or call you an idiot/"don't know what you're talking about" while never responding to a single point you make

CryptoRoast_

Depends why its hated.. if its hated for not being decentralised then that's totally fine.

If it's not decentralised then it solves nothing that cant be solved by a microsoft access or SQL database..

I got chewed out just yesterday pointing out the near non-centralized net work. Where 90%of Solana network is just 4 companies that are controlled by the developers of Solana.

Was told how much of an idiot I was
